Six Phases of Relational Wholebody Focusing

1) Embodying Relational Grounded Presence

  • connecting to self, other, environment with my whole body

  • receiving myself, you and our emergent we space, in a wholebody way

2) Awakening the Body Wisdom

  • awakening inner directed movements of the body as a wholeness

  • unwinding the human stress response and expanding a sense of a safe and stable 'me here'

3) Being OK with Not Knowing

  • holding the dynamic inner space of not knowing

  • letting go of the need to control inside of the safe, kind and gentle Adult observer and felt sensing Me Here meeting You There

4) Welcoming the New Knowing

  • allowing a felt sense to emerge - the meaning of the situation and how it is connected to my life

  • new life energy and information carry the whole person and organism forward at all levels of human living in the world (self-understanding, enhanced vitality, deepened and softened affect and responsiveness to affect of the other, new life directions and precise action steps that feel natural and “just right for me and for you”

5) Holding Both - Wholeness & Parts

  • holding both with equal positive regard - wholeness of self and something ( a part or parts of self) that want my attention

  • being curious about habitual patterns as well as newly forming neuro-physiological pathways inside of the same inner space of Me Here

  • inviting the body as a whole, aware of itself in all of the spate-temporal directions, to also be aware of the wholeness and integration of emergent self-parts

6) Resonating with the Felt Shifts & Life Forward Movement

  • allowing life forward movement and the fullness of the situation to complete itself through the whole living body

  • tracking the re-organization and re-experiencing of fresh symbols, images and relational wholebody movements inside Me and between Us

  • inviting the cells, tissue, organs, bones and the breath of the living body to deeply receive the felt shift into its own awareness as a fully awakened instinctual animal body

  • allowing the larger We space to hold the integrative wholebody whole-person process to be supported, witnessed and received by my Listener/Therapist

  • welcoming the bodily human responsiveness of my Listener when I feel ready to receive them back into my adult body experience
